Understanding the Basics of your Professional Liability Policy

The Professional Liability policy is unlike many other insurance policies, in that it is written on a "Claims Made and Reported" basis. The basic concept is simple: the claim is tied to the policy in effect when the claim is reported to the insurance carrier rather than the policy in effect when the alleged act occurred. For example, a claim made and reported in 2017 regarding alleged negligence on a project that was completed in 2013, would trigger the 2017 policy.

Sound simple? Unfortunately, there's a lot more to it.

Berkley DP's Walter Adams, Vice President and Senior Claims Examiner outlines several extremely important components that must be satisfied to ensure coverage.
